Welfare-Focused & Positive Dog Training
Positive, reward-based training is at the heart of everything we do. We focus closely on your dog’s emotions and communication. For a welfare-led approach, it is essential to learn how to read the body language and emotional drivers behind your dog’s behaviour. This is how you foster genuine cooperation and build an enduring bond.
Canine Body Language as the Foundation
Throughout our practical lessons, across our online learning platform, and within our app, we place significant emphasis on canine communication. You will learn how your dog uses their body to communicate and how to respond effectively as their guardian. This approach gives your dog the confidence, security, and understanding they deserve.
Tailored Guidance
Whether you have a lively, inquisitive puppy or an adult dog, our experienced, certified trainer works closely with you to design a personalised training plan. In our group classes, we maintain a keen focus on individual attention and specific needs. Clear communication, cooperation, and your dog’s well-being always take precedence, with careful consideration given to breed-specific traits.
Our training courses
Private Training
Private sessions typically take place in your own home or within your dog’s familiar neighbourhood. We travel to any location across Amsterdam and Weesp at no extra charge. If you live outside Amsterdam, travel costs apply. During these sessions, we focus on reading body language and establishing seamless cooperation; we believe the key to successful, positive training.
Group Classes
Our group classes are held on a fully enclosed training field at Riekerweg 6 in Amsterdam, located at Hotdog House. A large stretch tent ensures we stay sheltered even in wet weather. During the winter months, warm coffee and fresh ginger tea are on hand to keep everyone comfortable. Safety, learning, and fun remain central, ensuring every session is an enriching experience for both dog and guardian.

Communication Is Key
At our training school, clear communication and mutual understanding are central. We believe a solid foundation begins with learning to interpret your dog’s signals while communicating your own intentions clearly and calmly. This provides your dog with the confidence and emotional balance needed to thrive. Dog training is not about rigid obedience; it is about understanding your dog and respecting their communicative cues.
Cooperation, Not Commands — We Are Not in the Military!
We teach you how to observe your dog’s visual communication: their posture, facial expressions, and subtle shifts in movement. It is about recognising and honouring these nuances. By truly understanding your dog and meeting them at their level, you nurture a loving, durable connection. Rather than issuing demands, you build cooperation founded on trust.
“A bond built on trust is stronger than control.”
For Your Dog’s Overall Well-Being
Your dog’s physical and emotional health is our top priority. A dog in balance is content, resilient, and relaxed. Camilia Dallali, certified canine training instructor, guides you step-by-step through straightforward, positive training methods. You will discover not only how to communicate clearly with your dog, but also how to interpret what they are communicating back to you. Trust, teamwork, and joy form the foundation of every session.
Enjoying the Journey Together
You will notice progress from your very first session. It is rewarding to see how quickly and enthusiastically dogs engage when trained with positive, welfare-led methods. Together, we make learning a shared, uplifting experience rooted in trust, clear communication, and fun.
Choose training grounded in communication, cooperation, and welfare—and discover just how strong your bond can be.
Mission Statement
Ethological Knowledge
At Ethical Dog Trainers, we are deeply committed to promoting canine welfare. Our mission is to share ethological knowledge and support guardians in raising, training, and guiding their dogs. We take a holistic, reward-based approach, striving for a harmonious and joyful bond between you and your dog without fear or force. We believe that an understanding of ethology is vital to enhancing welfare, and supporting your dog’s well-being through a holistic framework remains our top priority.
Every Dog Is Unique
Because every dog is an individual, our classes are kept small or run on a one-to-one basis. This allows us to tailor the curriculum to their natural needs, breed-specific traits, and emotional state. A holistic approach makes this possible by placing overall welfare first, with ethological insight serving as our cornerstone.
Our Training Approach
Our training focuses on fostering intrinsic motivation, guiding and teaching dogs with genuine respect for their natural needs and emotions. By teaching dogs what we expect within our human environment, we empower them to make appropriate choices whilst preserving their sense of agency. This has a profoundly positive impact on their confidence and emotional well-being. Supporting welfare begins with understanding natural behaviour, which forms the foundation of our holistic practice.
This approach also strengthens the connection with your dog, making mutual cooperation far more natural.
A Loving Bond
Dog training is not about rigid obedience. It is about building a strong, trusting bond that enables you to guide your dog through the complexities of daily life. Nurturing their overall well-being is essential; a holistic, ethological perspective honours a dog’s true nature. A dog who is balanced both physically and emotionally is a content, joyful companion, and every dog deserves that level of consideration.
Play and Enrichment
Having fun together is just as vital. Play and joy are integral to our holistic approach, which is why our sessions always incorporate elements of fun and canine fitness. We use Fitbones® and complementary balance equipment to improve physical coordination and body awareness. Developing balance builds confidence and contributes significantly to your dog’s overall physical and mental well-being.
